Even though there is no right or wrong way to set up your site, there are definitely some good, better, and best features that make some sites look and feel better than others.
Absolute “must-haves” for your site:
This goes without saying. Your picture is the way people will identify with you and it needs to be right there on the front page. Your picture is the one item that makes you a real person in your reader’s mind. Don’t be shy. Put it up there!
On your header, there needs to be a statement about what your site is all about. Don’t make people guess. Make it brief but to the point. For example: Helping Online Business Owners Through The Internet Marketing Maze would be very specific. There’s no question what that site is about!
A clean look
This is a matter of preference but we’ve all seen sites that are so crowded with ads and banners that it’s hard to find the main content. Just like anything else, keeping it simple will also keep your readers coming back for more.
An opt-in box
If you are doing business, you have to capture your customers names onto a list. There’s only one way and that’s by having an opt-in box. The best location? Again, it’s a matter of preference but the upper right hand corner seems to work the best. It needs to be in a prominent place where people can find it. Don’t make your readers have to hunt for it. They won’t.
This includes pictures that are relative to the content. Readers can relate more to the content when a picture is included. Also, it adds a level of interest to your site.
This is necessary to discover what people like and don’t like. It’s great instant feedback!
The must-haves for your internet business website are the foundation for everything else offered on your site. Of course, it goes without saying that the bulk of your site will be full of relevant, informative, and interesting content for your visitors!
